Valerian (Valeriana officinalis, Valerianaceae) is a hardy perennial flowering plant, with heads of sweetly scented pink or white flowers. Valerian was used as a perfume in the sixteenth century.

Valerian, in pharmacology and phytotherapic medicine, is the name of a herb or dietary supplement prepared from roots of the plant, which, after maceration, trituration, dehydration processes, are conveniently packaged, usually into capsules, that may be used for certain effects including sedation and anxiolytic effect.

Other names used for this plant include garden valerian (to distinguish it from other Valeriana species), garden heliotrope (although not related to Heliotropium) and "all-heal". The garden flower red valerian is also sometimes referred to as "valerian" but is a different species, from the same family but not particularly closely related.

Valerian has been used as a medicinal herb since at least the time of ancient Greece and Rome. Hippocrates described its properties, and Galen later prescribed it as a remedy for insomnia. In medieval Sweden, it was sometimes placed in the wedding clothes of the groom to ward off the "envy" of the elves. Valerian can be consumed as a tea.

Valerian House has the longest history on TerreD'Ange.net, the House yet had a Dowayne when other houses were coming to life. Bafana Bafana was the first Dowayne of Valerian House, then became the Priest of Naamah, and is now our Royal Treasurer. Our dear Priestess of Naamah, Ambyre, also once called Valerian House home after her marque was purchased from Mandrake House by Locke, our current Dowayne…she still holds a premises inside Valerian walls.

Locke was the Sun Prince at the site's first ever Mid-Winter Masque, he's the eldest Dowayne still in rank and he is known as the Dowayne that canceled his own house…………….After the house was emptied due to RL issues of its adepts Locke decided to erase all Valerian history and build the house from a blank page, for this task he collected a group of friends from all the rank of terredange and coordinated the works to rebuild the house.

The grand reopening of the House has been celebrated in July 2010, a huge success that gathered the attention of all terredange, the walls of the House has been full with life and all members came to discover the new, empowered Valerian…..as well as the true spirit of its Adept…our nature is to bend rather than break. When life gets hard we show the inner steel that drives us. It's hard to break a valerian; wars of attrition don't work because we endure rather than fade.

Nowadays Valerian House can count on new adepts and an always increasing group of guests, the rooms for assignation are always full with Patrons coming and going continually.
Valerian House is the only House of the Court of Night Blooming Flowers that has a rigid ranking inside the House, this includes a Dowayne's Second, a Mistress of Training and a Mistress or Healing, a Mistress of Punishment and a Mister of Wit and Frivolity, all of them with different tasks and duties, and a personal Office.
